TEHRAN – Several movie theaters across Tehran are planning to screen the 2018 FIFA World Cup games live for football fans, a spokesman for the Screening Council has said.

“Those theaters that are willing to screen the games need to apply to the council,” Gholamreza Faraji noted.

“We believe the plan will increase the number of filmgoers, while helping to prevent a drop in box office receipts during this major event,” he added.

“The theater owners are also requested to seek the approval of the producers of the onscreen movies to avoid any decline in their box-office receipts,” he remarked.

The council will decide on ticket prices at its next meeting.

Team Melli, Iran’s national football team, under the guidance of Carlos Queiroz, has drawn a place in Group B of the 2018 World Cup along with Spain, Morocco and Portugal. The Iran national football team will open the campaign with a match against Morocco at Saint Petersburg on June 15.
